Robbers shoot policeman dead in Warri

A three-man robbery gang has killed a yet-to-be-identified mobile policeman in Warri.

An eye witness, who could not tell the identity of the policeman, told NAN on Monday that the robbers shot the policeman three times on the chest.

He said that the event took place at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) roundabout, Warri.

The witness said that the policeman was shot in company of two persons in a car.

He said that the victim was escorting one of the occupants who had withdrawn some money from a bank. “The robbers dressed in black and masked.

“The policeman and the occupants did not know that they were being trailed by the hoodlums,” the witness said.

Another eyewitness, Chigozie Joshua said that he saw two of the robbers come out of their Toyota Corolla car and shot the policeman three times inside the car and took away the money.

Joshua, who hawks clothes, said that the robbers spared the other two occupants after making away with the money in a nylon bag.

“I was hawking by the road side when three guys stopped the car which the policeman was in, then they shot the policeman three times in his chest”.

“They collected the money from the other passengers in the car and drove off. The other passengers in the car hurriedly carried the policeman to the hospital,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta Police Command, DSP Celestina Kalu confirmed the incident, saying the police were on the trail of the criminals.
