The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has been cautioned against going after foreign coaches for the Super Eagles in the wake of the sack of Stephen Keshi.

This was the position of the Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike while reacting to the speculations that the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF is planning to hire a foreigner to replace Keshi as the coach of the Eagles.

Though he won’t want to talk on why the NFF sacked Keshi, he believes hiring an expatriate for Nigeria is counterproductive to the country.

”l can’t say it was right or wrong to sack the coach because l am not an insider in the NFF. I can only advise that the NFF should not be in a rush to replace Keshi with a foreigner. The NFF must be mindful of the future of the game and therefore l would implore that they select one of the local coaches to replace Keshi and not a foreigner.

“We have good and capable coaches who can take our teams to big competitions and perform creditably well as they had done in the past,” said Ejidike who is also the President of Karate Federation of Nigeria, KFN.

He expressed optimism that Nigerian football and indeed other sports shall rise again despite the recent mixed of fortunes for the country’s representatives at different continental and global championships.

The NFF at the weekend terminated its contract with Keshi because of what it described as a breach of contract when the Chief Coach was accused of applying for the vacant post of Ivory Coast’s senior national team, the Elephants.
