Retiree, 60, In Trouble Over Suspect’s Escape

A 60-year-old retiree, Adeyemi Samuel, has been arrested by the operatives of Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos State, western Nigeria, for allegedly failing to produce a suspect, Olanrewaju Fagbile he stood as surety in a N5m bail bond at the Command to secure his release.
After investigation by Inspector Ayoola Saka and his team, Samuel from Onikolobo area  of Ogun State, western Nigeria, was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ court, Lagos on a two-count charge of felony to wit: conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Marcus Okon, informed the court in charge No. AM/15/2015 that the accused committed the offence on 23 May, 2013 at the Zone 2 command, Onikan Lagos.

Okon told the court that the accused stood as a surety for  Olanrewaju Fagbile  who was arrested for criminal offence, with a promise to always produce him at the police command any time he is needed for interrogation till the disposal of the case but that the accused failed to produce the suspect before the police despite several reminders to date.

Okon further stated that the accused was arrested and charged to court to show cause why he will not forfeit the N5 m bail bond he entered into with the police for the release of the suspect to the government.

He stated that the offences the accused committed are punishable under sections 97(3) and 32 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, denied the police allegation in the open court and the presiding Magistrate, who stood in for Mrs. F. Dalley, admitted him on bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case till 9 July, 2015 for mention.
