At a time when some many states and companies are owing backlog of salaries causing industrial action, the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) in Bayelsa State have commended the state governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, for regular payment of workers salaries.

A statement by the State council chairmen of NLC, Ebipere Ndiomu and his TUC counterpart, Dounana Tari, said that their members were appreciative of the governor’s gesture which would keep the workers committed to duty and raise productivity.

They said that they were aware of the personal sacrifices the governor had made to ensure that salaries were paid regularly and despite the shortfall in revenue from the federation account.

They also noted the fate of their counterparts in other states who were being owed salaries, adding that Dickson’s dedication to workers would be reciprocated by continued collaboration on development initiatives and support to his administration to move the state forward.

Labour said, “By this singular act, it clearly shows that Governor Dickson is a labour-friendly governor. Bayelsa workers are grateful to the “talknando” governor and we will continue to support him in his quest to move the state to higher heights.

“We commend the compassion of the governor; our appreciation stems from the fact that we are aware of what our counterparts are suffering in other states. It takes a disciplined and committed governor who loves the people to be able to go the extra-mile as governor Dickson has done to ensure that workers salaries are paid regularly despite the revenue shortfall in the country.
