A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abba Anas, has called on Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to cut his salary after he cut the salaries of political appointees, adding that, it became necessary in view of the precarious financial situation of Kano State.

Anas, who is the Chairman of APC Youth Vanguard, Northern States Chapter, made the call in an interview with NAN on Friday in Kano.

He said it was necessary for the governor to show leadership by example “because slashing the salaries and allowances of other political office holders, alone, is not enough.

“Many people in the state are still waiting to hear similar cut from the governor himself for them to believe that he is really committed to cutting the cost of governance.

“Restricting the 50 per cent slash to political appointees alone will make one to read meaning to such decision.”

According to him, fairness can only be ensured when the governor volunteers to also cut his salary by 50 per cent.

“Ganduje has made it public that he inherited a huge debt from his predecessor, therefore, the same measure he took on the salaries of political appointees should be applied to him.”

He said that the gesture would boost the governor’s image in the eyes of the people of the state.
