Hajiya Zubaida Sheriff, Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, says the government is determined to wage war against drug abuse among the youth in enhancing social development.

She made this known during a familiarisation visit to the Reformatory Institute in Kiru, Kano on Wednesday.

The commissioner, who expressed concern over the rate of drug abuse among youths, said that fighting the menace would be her major cardinal thrust.

“We shall take decisive action against the menace considering the disastrous health hazard it poses to youths,” Sheriff said.

She promised to explore all avenues of effective collaboration with prominent stakeholders to fight the war against drug abuse.

According to her, the state government has made considerable efforts in rehabilitating some youths who take to drug abuse.

“The reformed addicts can be exploited to render their maximum contribution to the society,” she said.

In his remark, the Camp Administrator, Alhaji Sabo Yusuf, said the reformatory institute, which was established in 2011 by the state government, had so far rehabilitated 700 drugs addicts.

He commended the commissioner for the visit and pledged to ensure the success of the institute.
