The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) chapter of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASUU, has threatened to embark on a full strike action, if the university management fails to pay their allowances which have been on hold for over 60 months.

The threat by the NASUU, OAU members was issued during a protest carried out last week, where they walked massively around the campus with placards stating their grievances.

P.M.NEWS Campus Square gathered that the agitation of the pressure group was not just for their unpaid allowances but also due to the delay of their promotion and lots more.

They also made it known that the university management cares only for their pocket and not for the welfare of the university staff.

Chairman, NASUU, OAU, Comrade Wole Odewunmi, told our correspondent that the university management is fraudulent as they have 60 months allowance to pay their members.

“Our members are angry and they are ready go to any length to show their grievances. The main reason for this protest is the failure of the university management to pay our earned allowance for over 60 months.

“We have been on this since 2012, which implies that they haven’t been paying this allowance since 2012 to date. This issue has been taken to court but it yielded no result.

“The university management is fraudulent because they can never tell NASUU that there is no money. Recently, the Federal Government closed down 41 bank accounts of the university in which billions of naira was deposited in them.

“These people are just inconsiderate and that is why we are here today to let them know that we are angry. This is just a warning shot, NASUU has not started, by the time we begin our struggle, they will understand we are in for serious business,” he said.

Amidst this protest, speculations have it that the Students Union of Ife might join the struggle of their sister union as they are all concerned.

This is because of the consequences that NASUU’s strike will have on the students.
