A court in Nouakchott has jailed three Mauritanians after they pleaded guilty to terrorism charges, a news report said on Thursday.
Mohamed Ely, Aly Miya and Boukhary Dahane were sentenced to 10, seven and five years in prison, after they pleaded guilty to recruiting combatants for the Islamic State.
The report said the court’s judgment came at the end of a one-day trial in the Mauritanian capital, where the defence lawyers said the trial should have been longer, given the gravity of the charges.
The Mauritanians were arrested in October 2014 in the region of Zouerate, about 600 kilometres North-east of Nouakchott.
