Ogun State Police Command has in the last one week arrested 30 suspected cultists at various locations in Ijebu Ode, Ijebu Ode local government area of Ogun state.

It would be recalled that the entire city of Ijebu Ode has been under siege of cultists following crisis between two cult groups, Aiye and Eiye, which have resulted in the death of over 15 people in the town.

Some of the suspected cultists arrested include Gbenga Banjo, a.k.a Solution, Akeem Kareem, a.k.a Obalofin, Dammy, Jawando (real names unknown), Oluwatimileyin Akintunde, a.k.a Majek, Olootu Lukman, a.k.a,Eba, Neyo (not real name) and Oladele Oluniga.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, it stated that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Valentino Ntomchukwu has vowed to tackle cultism and other vices that are capable of embarrassing the Police and other security agencies in the state.

“With a bid to actualise his determination, he has deployed more than ten (10) teams comprising Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti Robbery of the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Mobile Police Force, State Intelligence Buruea, etc, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, DCP Shina Olukolu and some other senior police officers to carry out operations in Ijebu area.

“The teams on special operation in Ijebu Ode have carried out raids on many black spots and hideouts including Fidipote Street, Ogbogbo village, Ita Alapo, Imaweje village and some hotels in the area which has led to the arrest of the prime suspects or ring leaders who had been involved in many criminal acts including series of killings of people in the area and in some other parts of the state,” the statement read.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ogun state, CP Valentino Ntomchukwu has ordered thorough investigation of the other suspects and more of the incidences recorded in Ijebu area of the state,as the command will not allow any individuals or group of hoodlums to truncate the existing security arrangement in the state or embarrass the command,” it added.

Adejobi disclosed that the Police Commissioner has vowed to take the fight against cultism and other vices in the state to the door steps of the hoodlums.

The Police spokesman however stated that his boss has appealed to the general public, particularly, the good people of Ijebu Ode to support the police in the fight and believe in the capability of the police and other security agencies in tackling the menace.

Adejobi revealed that some of the suspects have been arraigned in the High court of Ijebu Ode.
