Despite being underdogs, Nigeria started their tournament with a well-earned 3-3 draw with one of the pre-tournament favourites Sweden on Monday at the Winnipg Stadium.

“We played a good game against a strong team and I believe better days are ahead of us,” Nwabuoku said

“We have a very young side – I think one of the youngest in the tournament. That means we are yet to play to our full potential.

Nwabuoku says that her Nigeria side, ranked 33rd in the world, fear no one in this tournament, and will go all out to win against the Australians.

“We knew from the beginning that we were a team nobody would count as a favourite, but we are not scared of any opponent, and we have nothing to lose and everything to gain, so we can simply play our game.

“And that is what we want to do in our next match against Australia.”

The Kazakstan-based midfielder also appealed to the fans to be patient with the team.

“It’s about winning and we all win together. The fans have supported us all this while and I will just urge them to be patient with us.”

Coach of the ladies, Edwin Okon has stated that any team hell bent on reading his team are only wasting their time as his girls are very unpredictable in their approach at the on-going FIFA Women’s World Cup finals.

Okon said that though his team may be seen as underdogs, it’s very difficult to predict their style and they are very much able to spring surprises.

“Anyone who tries to predict my team will be disappointed because we can’t be predicted. All my players are equal to the task and anyone of them can start a game. Nobody can predict the Nigeria team, only our Father in heaven  can do that because if you read us A we will give you B, the girls are determined for success and to make the country proud,” he said.

On the tactics he hopes to employ against Australia in the crucial tie, Okon was coy but said only one thing is certain and that is that his team will beat Australia.
