Court remands 3 men for robbery, rape

An Akure Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded three men- Femi Ojo, 25; Taiwo Osadare, 24, and Emmanuel Abah, 22, over alleged conspiracy, rape and robbery.

The accused persons were alleged to have conspired to arm themselves with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons to rob and rape a 42-year-old woman, Mrs Margaret Akomolafe.

The prosecutor, Insp. Jimoh Abrahim, told the court that the three accused persons raped their victim and robbed her of N69, 000 cash.

He said that the accused persons committed the offences on April 30, 2015 at about 9:p.m. at Ibule-soro, in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to him, the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 516, 402 and 357 of the Criminal Code and punishable under Section 358 of the same code.

The three accused persons pleaded not guilty.

Counsel to all the accused persons, Oluwole Adeyemo, asked for bail for his clients in liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr Musa Al-Yunus refused to grant the bail and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.

Yunus also directed that the case be forwarded to the State Ministry of Justice for legal advice.

He adjourned the case till June 15.
