Ambode Plans Summit On Lekki, Apapa Traffic Gridlock

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, says he would convene a traffic summit in the next few weeks to address traffic gridlocks in parts of the state where the problem is severe.

He made the promise during an interactive session he and the Deputy Governor,  Oluranti Adebule, and the Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello, had with media owners and editors in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, on Thursday.

The governor assured that traffic jams in areas such as Apapa, Lekki and other parts of the state would soon disappear after the stakeholders’ summit where experts would proffer solution to the thorny issue that has resulted in the collapse of businesses in Apapa where trucks have made life hellish for motorists, residents and business owners.

He said his administration would immediately ensure that there is round the clock control of traffic in areas across the state where traffic congestion is severe.

Ambode said his mission is to make life simpler for Lagosians and to make them happy, adding that he would not increase taxes in the state.

He also said he would liaise with the Federal Government for support to construct the 4th Mainland Bridge that would link Ikorodu with Lagos Island.

He further stated that the Ayobo-Ipaja road project has not been abandoned, adding that what caused a temporary setback were the oil pipelines buried underneath the path of the road project.

The governor also spoke about the crisis at  Lagos State University, LASU, owned by the state,  and vowed that the crisis would be confronted frontally.

He lamented that no Vice Chancellor in the institution had done two terms as powerful interest groups  are always jostling to control the affairs of the institution.

Ambode promised to complete the unfinished Ifako-Ijaiye mini stadium and to build more community recreational sports complexes across the state in line with his passion for sports development at the grassroots.
