World number one, Novak Djokovic has beaten Rafael Nadal in three straight sets to send the Spaniard packing from Roland Garros.
Djokovic who has never won the French Open title brushed the ‘King of Clay’ Nadal with a 7-5 6-3 4-1 win.
The crowd on Philippe-Chatrier witnessed a spectacular clash between the duo who have now played 44 times, an Open Era record for head-to-head meetings between players.
Nadal who is unbeaten at Roland Garros since 2009 beat Djokovic in 2012 and 2014 French Open final.
Djokovic described his quarter-final win over Rafael Nadal as “an incredible day”.
“I have great respect for Rafa, he’s a true champion and it’s always a pleasure to play him,” adds the 28-year-old.
“I knew I had to be aggressive and stay concentrated on every point. That’s not easy to do against a man who had only lost once here in his career. It’s an incredible day, I am very happy and I want to continue like this.”
