Police kill two suspected cattle rustlers in Delta

The Delta Police Command has confirmed the killing of two suspected armed robbers who attacked cattle rearers along a bush path near Okpara Waterside, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

The Command spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the killing of the suspects in a statement issued on Tuesday in Asaba.

Kalu said the deceased were suspected members of a robbery gang that attacked some herdsmen working for one Alhaji Ibrahim, a cattle merchant in the state.

“On June 1, 2015, one Alhaji Ibrahim of Aziza junction, along Warri/Sapele road, reported at the Isiokolo Police Station that gunmen have attacked his cattle rearers in the bush.

“He said he received distress call from his boys rearing his cattle in a bush at Okpara Water Side that they were under attack by unknown gun men”.

Kalu said a patrol team was quickly mobilised to the scene, adding that the hoodlums, numbering about four, on sighting the policemen, opened fire on them.

According to her, the hoodlums operated with a Honda Accord car with Reg. No. SE 858 AAA, which they abandoned and fled into the bush.

“The policemen courageously pursued them into the bush and during an ensuing gun duel, gunned down two of the hoodlums while others escaped.

“The injured suspects, however, gave up the ghost while they were being rushed to hospital for treatment,” she said.

The image maker disclosed that the police recovered from the suspects, 6 locally fabricated cut-to-size guns, 2 Nokia handsets and the Honda Accord car.

She said the police had spread their dragnet in the area in an efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
