Senate President: Saraki's aide apologises for blunder on zoning

The Special Adviser to Senator Bukola Saraki on media has apologised for wrongly informing Nigerians that the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) has zoned the slot for Senate Presidency to the North Central geopolitical zone.

In a statement titled: ‘MIX UP STORY ON ZONING, SARAKI’s AIDE TENDERS UNRESERVED APOLOGY’, Saraki’s media aide, Bamikole Omishore said: “My attention has been drawn to a story earlier posted on Senator Saraki’s social media pages concerning the zoning of the position of the Senate Presidency to North Central by the National Working Committee of our dear party APC.

He added that: :Unfortunately, after reading the story in Daily Trust, out of excitement I immediately reacted to the story by sharing it on all our social media networks without first checking within the party to confirm the validity of the story.”

“As the Special Assistant on Media & Advocacy to Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki and in my personal capacity, I take full responsibility for the error and apologize to the party and all concerned that might have been inconvenienced by this action,” the statement read.

This apology comes after the APC NWC National Secretary, Hon. Mai Mala Buni issued a statement to dismiss the rumour. “The NWC never discussed the issued of zoning at its meeting. Therefore, the report of its decision on zoning is a figment of the imagination of whoever concocted the story,” APC NWC said.
