The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration (NAFDAC) has shut down two illegal sachet water production companies in Kano.

The companies were operating with various names and lacked NAFDAC registration numbers.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after sealing the two companies situated at a farm, the state coordinator of the Agency, Mr N.A. Nnaja, solicited public support for their closure.

He noted that there were several of such illegal companies that were producing not only sachet water but also yoghurt and juice drinks in the state.

Nnaja warned owners of such illegal businesses to stop or be prepared to always contend with the agency.

The coordinator said the agency was working in the interest of the public, adding that “the unregistered products were inimical to public health”.

“It is our responsibility to prevent the unsuspecting public from the consumption of contaminated products,” he said.

NAN reports that NAFDAC has launched a special operation against illegal sachet water producers in the state and had shut down about 40 companies in Kano in the last two months.
