IG sends crack squad to tackle cultism, violent crimes in Edo

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, has dispatched a special crack squad to Edo to tackle the spate of cultism, kidnapping, robbery and other related crimes in the state.

Notice of the dispatch is contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, on Wednesday.

The statement quoted Ojukwu as expressing the concern of the I-G about the unabated activities of cultists and other violent criminals in the state.

He said the squad would be headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

He added that the squad would comprise units from the Police Mobile Force, Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD), State Anti-Robbery Section (SARS), and Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID).

Ojukwu also quoted Arase as charging members of the squad to employ professionalism, discipline and courage in carrying out the assignment.

He added that the deployment of the team was in line with the I-G’s thrust and commitment to ensure the protection of life and property, and build a people-oriented police force.

The Force public relations officer advised the public to continue to collaborate with the police and report any suspicious person to the nearest police station for prompt action.
