Some staff of Valley Nigeria Limited, a rubber shoe industry, on Monday in Kano protested the non-payment of their three months salaries.

NAN reports that the Chinese company is located at Gunduwawa in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano state.

The workers, who were mostly youths, marched from Grand Central Hotel Area to Emir’s Palace carrying placards with various inscriptions.

Some of the placards read: “Valley pay us our salaries, No salaries for three months, Pay us our salaries we are suffering, among others.

One of the protesters, Musa Lawan, who spoke to NAN at the Emir’s Palace, alleged that they were being exploited and that the salary being paid to them was very poor.

“The salary being paid to us is very meager in spite of the present economic hardship,” Lawan said.

Lawan said they were at the Emir’s Palace to register their complaint and for his possible intervention.

He appealed to the Emir to prevail on the company to pay the outstanding salaries because all effort to speak with its management had failed.

NAN reports that the protesters were advised to choose representatives to meet with officials of the palace as the Emir was said to be busy with guests.

As at the time of filing this report, security had been tightened in and around the palace to prevent possible intrusion by the protesters.

The management of the company could not be reached for comment.
