Police arrest 30 in Abuja

The police in Abuja arrested no fewer than 30 suspects in connection with car snatching and petrol hawking between April 26 and May 2.

The Commissioner of Police in Abuja, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, announced this on Tuesday while briefing newsmen on the command’s efforts at riding Abuja of crimes.

Inalegwu said the command recovered nine stolen vehicles, four arms and 10 ammunitions, eight master keys, two axes and five machetes from the suspects.

Also recovered, according him, are N860, 000 and 10 dollars.

“The command arrested nine persons sequel to recent directive re-enforcing the ban on sale of petrol in jerry cans in around Abuja.

“Members of the public should note that the dangers associated with the activities of these miscreants outweigh its benefits.

“This exercise will be a continuous one. Those arrested will soon be arraigned,” he said.

The commissioner restated that the command would not relent in the fight against crime in the territory and called on the residents to assist it to achieve the desired result.

“We will continue to re-strategise to make sure that we are ahead of the criminals,” he said.
