The Rivers Independent Electoral Commission said on Thursday that it would go ahead with election in 22 of the 23 local governments in the State on May 23.

The Commissioner in charge of Legal Services and Political Parties in the commission, Mrs Kathryn Ajayi, made this known to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

She said the people had been misinformed on the ruling by the Federal High court in a matter between the PDP, the Commission and three others.

Ajaji said the Federal High court did not make any order restraining INEC from releasing official voters register to the commission.

She also said the court did not make any order restraining the commission from conducting the elections.

The commissioner said; “It has come to the notice of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission that the public has been grossly misinformed about the ruling of the court in the matter between PDP and INEC, RSIEC and three others.

“It becomes imperative for the commission to refute the claim,” she said.

Ajayi urged the public and political parties to disregard the false information and continue with the electoral activities as scheduled.

Ajayi said so far, 27 of the 28 registered political parties had collected the Expression of Intent Forms to take part in the local government election.
