Members of the African Bar Association (AFBA), have threatened to file criminal complaints against the government of the Republic of South Africa at the United Nations Security Council if she failed to take decisive steps to curb the wave of xenophobic attacks against Africans in that country and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Association also demanded adequate compensation for the affected persons and murder charges preferred against the culprits.
President of AFBA, Hannibal Uwaifo, who disclosed this in a press statement in Benin yesterday, said the Association has assessed the situation in South Africa and would therefore constitute a team of lawyers to file its findings to the United Nations Security Council.
“Xenophobic attacks is the latest in this frequent attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa”, Uwaifo noted, describing the wave of attacks on fellow Africans as wicked and a total negation of the traditional African hospitality.
“The African Bar Association (AFBA) condemns the xenophobic attack against Africans in South Africa”, the AFBA President said.
He described as very sad the reluctance of South African Government to deal decisively with these criminal acts which he said have emboldened the miscreants to further desecrate the African hospitality and brotherhood.
