Warri Wolves Football Club on Saturday defeated MK Etanchetie FC of the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 at the Warri Township Stadium in a 2015 CAF Confederation Cup tie.

A brace from Super Eagles forward Gbolahan Salami gave the home team victory in the second round first leg match in the 12th edition of the continental club competition.

Salami scored first in the sixth minute of the game through a powerful header, and scored the second goal in the 71st minute after an assist from Etebo Oghenekaro.

The visitors got their lone goal in the 83rd minute through Mombo Lusala with a header to a corner kick.

“We only lost because we did not merit it. We have a very good attack, we dominated the match, had a penalty kick and we missed it.

“Warri Wolves attackers are very good and strong, but my players did not perform to my satisfaction. However, they tried. But we will try and make up in the return leg and qualify,’’ he said.

Also, the Technical Adviser of Warri Wolves, Paul Aigbogun, said he was hopeful of victory for his side in the return leg.

He said he was hopeful because two of his star players missed the match due to national engagement.

“In the first half, we created a lot of chances and we did not take them.

“ButI thank God that we won. It is better than a draw, and we can go there and score goals,” he said.
