The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, on Saturday said some hoodlums were arrested for allegedly disrupting the electoral process during the Governorship and House of Assembly polls in the state.
Aderanti disclosed this while addressing journalists during a visit to Mr Akin Orebiyii, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in Lagos.
He, however, declined to give the number of the arrests made, but simply said that the police had commenced interrogation of the suspects.
Aderanti said that the arrested individuals were involved in electoral offences.
“We have made some arrests; we are trying to look into it. To me, the election is reasonably good, if compared with what has been happening in the past.
“We have started interrogating the suspects,” he said.
He said that the police had not recorded any fatality in the elections.
Aderanti commended the officers of the command, INEC and also the people of the state for their peaceful conduct.
He said that the comportment of the politicians was above average.
Meanwhile, voting has been completed in several polling units in Lagos and counting of votes is ongoing.
NAN reports that counting commenced in Ward 4, Unit 092 Ijegun and Ward 4, unit 033, Ikotun, in Alimosho Local Government after voting ended at 3:40 p.m.
Counting was also on in polling unit 004, Ward 4, Oyewole Street, in Agege Local Government Area as well as in some other polling units in Agboyi/Ketu in Kosofe Local Government Area.
NAN correspondents report that counting was ongoing in polling units in Ward A 071, 072, 074; and Ward B 090, 095, 092, 093 in Kosofe Local Government Area.
NAN reports that counting of votes was completed at Polling unit 02, Ward G3 in Surulere Local Government
NAN reports that counting was also on in unit 004, Ward 4, Oyewole Street and some other
polling units in Agege Local Government Area.
NAN also reports that counting had commenced in some polling units around Agboyi/Ketu in Kosofe Local Government.
A correspondent of NAN reports that counting was ongoing in polling units in Ward A 071, 072, 074; and Ward B 090, 095, 092, 093 in Kosofe.
Voting also ended in some polling units visited in Badagry, followed by counting of votes.
At Unit 15, 16 and 17 under Ward A, counting votes was on at 5.30p.m., while at Unit 23, Ward J, it was on at 4.47p.m.
Meanwhile voters continued to commend INEC for its performance in the election.
The mother of the Vice President elect, Mrs Olubisi Osinbajo, expressed satisfaction on the effective operations of the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) used for the elections.
Osinbajo made the commendation in an interview with NAN at Ward J, Unit 003, Adembambo/Jolaosho St, Gbagada Phase 1, Obanikoro, Shomolu Local Government, constituency 2, in Lagos.
She said that the card reader worked very well and she thanked God for the success of the elections so far.
Osinbajo said that with the change in government at the federal level,something great was about to happen in the country.
Mr Joshua Akila, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) agent, in the same vein, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials for arriving early at the polling station.
Miss Seyi Omotosho, a student commended the conduct of residents in Badagry.
“Unlike other parts in the country where violence was experienced, it has been really peaceful here and the security agencies must be commended for this.
“People conducted themselves in orderly manner and this should be emulated over the country,” she said.
Another voter, Mr Audu Aliu commended the officials of INEC for their conduct.
“The officials of INEC must be commended because they arrived early and the whole process was quick and this prevented unnecessary tension,” he said.
