PDP gives Taraba REC N1bn to rig governorship election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba state has alleged that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Hamad Makama is refusing to release results from the certain polling unit causing tension and anxiety.

The results which were supposedly due to arrive Independent National Electoral Commission office in Jalingo yesterday are yet to arrive, a source said.

The source who is close to the APC governorship candidate, Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan told PM News that the REC was paid one billion naira to rig the elections in favor of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“They are holding on to the results from Southern Taraba with intensions to to influence the results in favour of the PDP,” the source told PM News in a telephone conversation.

The source noted that the party had constrain reaching its agents. “We can not reach our agents because mobile phones are not working in many of the villages in Southern Taraba. We have been unable to contact party agents to know what is happening there.

“We are waiting at the INEC office but officials are yet to confirm if they have received the results. They are working to ensure that our candidate does not win but we will stand by our vote,” the source said.

The source alleged that a big PDP chieftain was responsible for this action.

It would be recalled that social media was awash yesterday following news that Al-Hassan was in early lead and would become the first female governor in Nigeria.
