The Edo Government on Thursday commenced the payment of N490 million as compensation to 121 residents, who were affected in the recovery of Auchi gully erosion site.

NAN reports that the victims were those whose houses and property were destroyed due to the reclamation of the lost land to gully erosion.

Chris Abode, the Officer in Charge of Social Livelihood of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, presented cheques to the beneficiaries in Auchi.

“The Edo Government is to spend the sum of N490million as compensation to residents whose property are affected in the recovery of the Auchi gully site.

“The beneficiaries are those whose houses and farmlands will be affected in the course of reclaiming the areas taken over by the gully erosion in Auchi community,” he said.
