Pastor Mary Shikse, the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Plateau chapter on Thursday called on the President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari to discharge duties of his office without sentiments.
Shikse told NAN in Jos said that leadership was ordained from God and called on Buhari to see his election as a privilege to serve God and the people.
“Leadership is from God, the President elect should see himself as an instrument to serve God in the office of president.
“He should not say this region voted for me more than the other or this religion more than the other but should carry everybody along,” she advised.
The CAN official reiterated that leadership devoid of ethno religious and parochial loyalty would accelerate the development of the country.
Shikse, who is also the Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Plateau chapter said that the body had organised several seminars for women and youths in Plateau on how to keep the peace.
“We organised seminars for women and youths against electoral violence because they are the most vulnerable during crisis,” she said.
She said that more efforts were channelled at crisis prone areas by the PFN and against inciting, provocative statements which would escalate to instability.
The CAN chairman explained that it had engaged the media to enlighten the youths against being used as instruments of unrest.
“We have a special programme in some media organisations in both English and Hausa languages against electoral violence,” she said.
Shikse said that special prayer sessions had also been organised to intercede for the peace and progress of Nigeria and called on the public to conduct themselves in an orderly manner at the guber polls on Saturday.
