No Plan to Merge with Any Party - Ogun SDP

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun state today declared that it is set for the Saturday governorship election as it has no plan to merge with any political parties despite rumour that it will merge with other political parties in other to defeat the incumbent governor, Ibikunle Amosun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It would be gathered that the PDP since the announcement of the Presidential election on Tuesday,has been moving around to merge with other political parties in the State to defeat APC.

The PDP was reported to be in talk with the Social Democratic Party,SDP and the Labour Party,LP in the State to give the APC the fight for their money.

Addressing journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital on Sunday, the SDP governorship candidate in the state, Sen. Akin Odunsi said, “some unscrupulous elements are out to damage our party’s credibility, image and integrity ahead of Saturday election”.

He dismissed a news item on a radio station based in Abeokuta SDP has merged or formed alliance with another political party for the governorship election.

Odunsi further stated that there was no iota of truth in the damaging radio news items which SDP described as malicious, unfounded, baseless and a ‎wild imagination that could only has existed in the authors mind.

The senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, who is now the governorship candidate of SDP in the State said, “I state categorically and emphatically that our party has neither the intention nor plan to merge with any political party.

“The party do describe the news as politically motivated unfounded, mischievous, false, fake and the handy work of political spin doctors.

“I shall by the grace of God, contest the governorship election solely on the platform of SDP come April 11, 2015,” Odunsi posited.

Commenting on the poor outing of the party in the last election, Odunsi said the election was more of referendum outcome, saying the choice before Nigerians was continuity or change and Nigerians opted for change.

He said the results of the election would not reflect in the Saturday governorship election, noting that, the change Nigerians call for would come to reality in Ogun state.
