Electoral Offences: 8 In Police Net In Edo

Edo state commissioner for police, Samuel Adegbuyi Wednesday in Benin, disclosed that eight suspects were arrested during the 28 March Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state in connection with various electoral offences.

Adegbuyi made the disclosure while answering questions from journalists in his office.

He who said the suspects were arrested from across the state, also confirmed that one death was recorded in Benin during the election.

The Edo police command boss however said said that the Constitution empowers only the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to prosecute electoral offences.

He therefore said the suspects would be handed over to INEC for prosecution at the conclusion of investigation.

Twenty-eight other suspects who were arrested for various crimes, including one of the suspects armed robbers who robbed a new generation bank in Owo, Ondo state, were also paraded by Mr. Adegbuyi.
