Results collated from all the wards and local governments in the Lagos West Senatorial District has shown that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial candidate, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola aka Yayi, is leading the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr. Segun Adewale aka Aeroland.
With the results computed so far, Adeola is leading in six local governments while Mr. Adewale is leading in four local goernments. Of the total 797,220 votes tallied so far, the APC candidate has polled 428,206, while the PDP candidate has polled 369,014.
The APC is now leading PDP by 59,192 but the result has not yet been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which is the only constitutionally recognised body empowered to declare such official result.
Agents of both parties are still at the Ikeja collation centre waiting for the official announcement.
However, the candidate of the APC, Mr. James Abioudun Faleke has been returned as winner of the Ikeja Federal Constituency in the Saturday election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Returning Officer, Ikeja Federal Constituency, Dr. Dele Ashiru, who made the declaration, later presented certificate of return to the winner, Faleke at about 5. 18 am today.
In the declared result of the constituency, Faleke polled 33,375 votes to defeat Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Mutiu who polled 25,447, while PPA polled 50.
The result for the presidential in the constituency, is 29,893 for APC and 23,836 for PDP.
In the senatorial result in the constituency, APC got 32,811 votes while PDP got 25,572.
A few minutes after the announcement of the results, Ashiru said: “By the powers conferred on me as a returning officer Ikeja Federal Constituency and by provisions of the Electoral Law as amended, I hereby return you (Faleke) elected.”
Reacting to the victory, Faleke commended INEC and the processes of the election, describing the exercise as “very peaceful and violence-free.”
He urged INEC to follow same peaceful process in the declaration of the senatorial and presidential election results, assuring his supporters of his commitment to the improvement of their welfare and never to let them down in the course of his representation in Abuja.
“I am not only APC contestant, but also a coordinator of Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign train. So with this result so far, APC victory is guaranteed. I thank the party for giving me the double privilege of being a candidate to serve Nigeria and Lagos as a state,” Faleke stated.
Also, the result announced on Sunday by INEC officials at the Sura Collation Centre, Lagos Island, gave Alhaji Yakub Balogun, APC, candidate for Lagos Island Constituency II victory as he polled 16,437 votes to defeat his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, opponent, Rahman Saleweh who polled 7,305 votes.
Dr. Dolapo Badru, also of APC, Lagos Island Constituency I, polled 15,389 votes to defeat his PDP opponent Mrs. Adeoti Lukman, who polled 5,732 votes.
In Surulere Federal Constituency, Hakeem Gbajabiamila is also said to have retained his seat after defeating his counterpart from the PDP.
