There is apprehension over the delay of the result of the election conducted on Saturday by the Enugu INEC after several failed promises to announce the result.
Journalists have being waiting in vain at the INEC office at the Independent Avenue and there were also no officials to talk to the press.
The results in various units were guarded and that of some units were not announced because voting lasted late into the night due to late start.
There is strong suspicion that the delay of the result might lead to tampering with the outcome of the election results by voters and party agents who have also waited on INEC to announce the results.
Most of the journalists had left their office after waiting for several hours.
Some of the INEC officials who spoke our correspondent expressed their worries over the delay.
When our reporter contacted the information officer, Dr Anthonia Ekwo, she said INEC was ready to announce the result as it comes in.
She explained that the results will pass through the local governments and senatorial districts before it will get to their office.
She could not say why the announcement was delayed despite the INEC Commissioner’s claim that there was election in every area in the state.
Some of the officials said, the delay might be due to necessary adjustment to make up the number of voters in the state.
As at the time of filing this report, there was no sign the result will be announced as promised by INEC.
