Ahead of presidential and national assembly elections on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have tightened security around it premises in the Enugu State capital of INEC headquarters.

Also the city seems to be on siege as armed soldiers took over the streets of the city and the presence of the soldiers have caused tension as residents are in panic.

Apart from manning the streets, a team of security operatives comprising the DSS, Police and military personnels surrounded the INEC office at Independent Avenue armed to the teeth as sensitive material are being distributed across the state.

PM NEWS gathered that the soldiers were deployed at the strategic locations in the state to forestall any break down of law and order.

Commercial and private vehicles were thoroughly searched by the soldiers who have turned to traffic officers in the majors streets in Enugu.

At the INEC office, the gate was shut to prevent voters who troop to the headquarters to check their names on the billboard.

Meanwhile, some political parties have continued door to door campaign to lure voters to their side.

As the time of filing this report some parties members were still in various places canvassing for votes.
