36,204 Security Personnel For Lagos Polls Duties

As the country prepares for Presidential election on Saturday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti and the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Akin Orebiyi, on Thursday addressed the media on the preparations of securty agencies and the electoral body for the election.

Aderanti, who spoke during the media briefing, said that 36,204 security personnel would be deployed across the state for election duties, adding that they will man land, sea and the air with  motorcycles, trucks, armoured personnel carrier, gunboats and helicopters.

He assured that the force had put in place a comprehensive security arrangement for voters to perform their civic responsibilities during the elections, warning that the state police command was ready to put troubles makers where they belong.

“There will be no violence of any sort on that day,” the police boss  said, warning that anybody who violates  the Electoral Act will be dealt with.

“Nobody should stand close to the election centre after casting his or her vote. It is expected for all voters to move 300 meters away. Our men are ready to deal with any would-be-trouble maker and anybody caught will be prosecuted and jailed.

Aderanti said media practitioners, oil workers, and others on essential services will be allowed to move around during the curfew period after proper accreditation. Movement is restricted between 6am and 6pm on Saturday.
