A Lagos-based company, Vision Web Technologies, has launched an online platform to enable Nigerians monitor and report proceedings during the general elections starting on Saturday.

Briefing newsmen in Lagos recently, Managing Director of the firm, Marvin Ikenwude, said the platform is aimed at ensuring mass participation in the electoral process.

He said the platform will assist in putting into proper perspective proceedings at polling units across the country and help in ensuring credibility of the process.

He added that the platform will complement the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which said it has put in place all the needed safeguards to guarantee credible polls.

Ikenwude said the essence of the application when downloaded is to ensure that all the polling units across the country are effectively monitored by voters across the country, who he said will be able to supply real-time information to the web application.

“The aim is to ensure that the country is covered information-wise during the poll. What we hope to do is to bring into place Nigerians across the country that would play the role of citizen reporters before/during and after the polls,” he explained.

He stated that the platform is compatible with all mobile devices such as Android, Windows and Blackeberry.

“The innovation is called Election Monitor. It is a tool that guarantees transparency. In collaboration with voters/citizen reporters, who upload election information into the app, the platform can provide concrete evidence of the voting exercise and also offers the possibility of an immediate on the spot broadcast of true report uploaded,” he added.
