APC candidate donates relief materials to displaced persons

The APC senatorial candidate for Benue South District, Daniel Onjeh, has donated relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Agatu Local Government Area of the state.

Presenting the items on Saturday when he visited the area, Onjeh said the gesture was aimed at providing succour for the victims of the recent attack by suspected herdsmen.

NAN reports that the attack took place on March 15.

NAN further reports that items donated included clothing and food items.

Onjeh, however, appealed to the police to deploy their personnel to Agatu local council in order to check further attacks on residents.

He said gunmen had continued to launch attacks on the community because of the absence of security men in the area.

Onjeh called on the State Emergency Management Agency and the National Emergency Management Agency to send relief materials to the victims in order to ameliorate their sufferings.

The APC candidate further appealed to all well meaning people in the state to support the displaced persons in order to reduce their hardship..

He promised to assist the proprietor of Ghana Clinic located in Egba in the council area who had been giving victims first aid treatment with his personal resources.

The proprietor, he said, would be assisted to secure scholarship to study medicine.

Also speaking, the party’s House of Representatives candidate for APA/Agatu Federal Constituency, Mrs Catherine Une, said soldiers should have been drafted in the area to check the persistent attacks.

The party’s state House of Assembly candidate for Agatu constituency, Mr Philip Haruna, decried the lack of social amenities in the area.
