A 52-year-old jobless man has been arrested and charged before Ojokoro Magistrate’s Court, in Lagos, western Nigeria for allegedly battering his wife for failing to give him feeding allowance.
The man, Sylvester Ogwu, was said to be out of job and was angry that his wife, Caroline Ogwu, left home on the fateful day without giving him any money for food for the family.
P.M.NEWS gathered that Ogwu rained blows on his wife as she was preparing to go to work in the morning on the day the incident happened.
In the process he knocked her down and inflicted injury on her left eye. She was rushed to a hospital where she is being treated.
The incident happened at Isa Isimikhai Street, Alaso, Agbado, Lagos State, western Nigeria, where they reside.
The matter was reported to the police by their neighbours and Ogwu was arrested and was charged with assault by inflicting injury on Caroline under the Criminal Code.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs T. Akanni granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one responsible surety in like sum.
However, he was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 25 March, 2015.
