Man bags 3 months for constituting public nuisance

A Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 30-year old man, Okan Kingsley of Udo Udoma St., Asokoro, to three months imprisonment for constituting public nuisance.

The presiding judge, Hassan Ishaq sentenced Kingsley, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of public nuisance.

Ishaq, however, gave the convict the option to pay a N5, 000 fine. He also warned him to desist from committing any crime.

“The accused should write an undertaking with the registrar of this court never to commit any offence again as the court will not take it lightly with him,” he said.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Philips Akogwu told the court that Kingsley was arrested by a police patrol team attached to Asokoro Police Station on March 6.

Akogwu said that while the police were on patrol, the accused was arrested and brought to the station for constituting public nuisance.

He also told the court that the accused was arrested in an area where criminal activities take place and he could not explain what he was doing at the spot.

The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Section 199 of the Penal Code.
