The Federal Government established 38 Almajiri Quranic schools in Katsina State with 19,000 pupils enrolment, President Goodluck Jonathan said.

He made the disclosure on Tuesday in Katsina during PDP Presidential campaign rally.

He said the Almajiri category of schools was established to give pupils the opportunity to obtain both Islamic and western education.

Jonathan said people of the state possessed high taste of possessing knowledge.

He added that “Katsina State has been the home of education and elite since colonial days, where the first college in the Northern region was established.

“We are ready to give education and agriculture high priority in the state as the people are predominantly agrarians and give much concern to education,” he said.

The President explained that his administration established a federal university to give Katsina youths more opportunity to pursue their educational career.

“I know that the state already has two universities, but I decided to establish another one to further enhance the pursuit of knowledge,” he added.

He urged the people to vote the ruling party so as to continue enjoying more dividends of democracy.

Earlier, the PDP Presidential Campaign Director-General, Ahmadu Ali, had appealed to people of Katsina State to vote for PDP during the 2015 general elections.

Ali said Katsina was the home of PDP for the past 15 years, saying the administration of late Umaru Musa Yar’adua and Gov. Ibrahim Shema had done a lot to provide dividends of democracy to the people.
