Kano State Government has set up a committee to checkmate the outbreak of bird flu in some parts of the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by Public Relations Officer, state’s Ministry of Agriculture, Malam Garba Yunusa in Kano on Saturday.

It said the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Yusuf Gawuna, had confirmed the outbreak of the bird flu in four local government areas of the state.

“Gawuna said the State Government was concerned about the cases hence the setting up of the committee.

“The flu had been reported in Gwale, Minjibir, Kumbotso and Tofa local government areas and had been depopulated,” according to the statement.

The statement said the commissioner enjoined the public to report any sign of the disease to either the committee or any of the veterinary clinics in the state for immediate action.

NAN recalls that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources had confirmed the outbreak of bird flu in Kano and Lagos states on Thursday.
