Police arrest 9 after PDP, APC supporters' clash

The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Alhaji Shu’aibu Gambo, on Saturday confirmed the death of one person and the arrest of nine suspects in connection with Thursday’s clash between the supporters of APC and PDP in the state.

Gambo disclosed this in Sokoto when he briefed newsmen on the preparations for President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to the state on Monday.

He said that those arrested would soon be charged to court after thorough investigations.

The police commissioner said that the commnad had also recovered dangerous weapons from the suspects.

He said that the command had concluded the necessary arrangements to ensure the success of the president’s visit to the state.

“An effective operational system had been worked out to provide security during the one- day visit.

“The command has already deployed its intelligence officers across the metropolis for the build up of security situation.”

He explained that the command would liaise with other security agencies in the state to take concrete measures to ensure that the visit of the President is hitch -free .

“We have done it before and we are set to do it again for the peaceful conduct of the historic presidential visit.”

The police commissioner solicited the support of parents in the state not to allow their children to be used as miscreants, warning that any one found wanting would be arrested and prosecuted.

He also called on leaders of the political parties to do more in educating their followers to desist from all kinds of vices.
