INEC To Distribute 3.7m PVCs In Lagos

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, says it will begin fresh distribution of 3.7 million Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVC, to residents of the state from Friday.

The new Resident Electoral Commissioner, Akin Orebiyi, said on Wednesday that during the distribution of the PVCs, Lagosians who are yet to collect their PVCs now have the opportunity to do so..

He said from Friday, there would be the distribution of PVCs in 255 wards across Lagos State and that the PVCs would be available for collection seven days of the week beginning from 8:30am and ending at 5:30pm.

Orebiyi disclosed that 1.8 million cards were yet to be collected, while 1.3 million pieces from the last Continuous Voters Registration and 600,000 PVCs from year 2011 registration were expected to be delivered to the commission before the end of this month.

He said that INEC in the state had already taken delivery of some non-sensitive materials for the February elections, including 5,000 ballot boxes and 5,995 smart card readers.

Orebiyi promised a level playing field in the electoral process and reminded political parties and candidates of the need to be tolerant and make their campaigns issue-based.

The highlight of the conference was the distribution of a thirty-two page media code of election coverage booklet to representatives of media organizations.
