Robbers have been terrorising residents of Okuku in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State for months and the victims want the police to go after the criminals.

Sources told P.M.NEWS that the robbers, who are mostly youths, invade homes in the dead of the night and rob families of their valuables at gun point.

The latest attacks happened last weekend when the robbers raided many houses in Okuku, attacked and severely injured a couple said to be receiving treatment in the hospital.

In one instance, when they could not gain access into a home at Ocheyenor not far from the Police Station on Abakaliki Road, they removed the ceiling and carted away a portable generator and a TV set. It was the second time this year that the thieves would invade that home, whose occupants were not around when they came calling.

The once peaceful community is now at the mercy of the robbers, who carry out their operations particularly in lonely areas where new homes are being built.

The police and some community leaders were said to have held a meeting after the latest attacks but many doubt if the robbers would be flushed out, having persisted in their nefarious activities for several months.
