Cultism: Five MAPOLY students remanded in prison

Magistrate Adekunte of the Magistrate court 3, Isabo, Abeokuta this morning ordered that five students from the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Ojere, Abeokuta suspected to be cultists be remanded in prison custody.

The five suspects are; Olawale Olaniyi, Azeez Adeyemi, Bidemi Olufalo, Handed Osilaja and Sodiq Bashorun.

They were accused of belonging to a secret cult group, known as Black Axe.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ozimini, the accused were arrested on 5 August 2014 at the school premises during one of their group meetings.

“That the accused were on 5 August 2014 at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State in Abeokuta Magisterial District to have belongs to a group called “Black Axe”, a secret cult society, contrary to Section 3 and punishable under Section 5 of the secret cult (prohibition and Special Provision) Laws of Ogun State 2006,” the charge sheet reads.

Magistrate Adekunte later adjourned the matter till Monday 26 January 2015.
