Princess Onanuga is Amosun's running mate for 2015 poll

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of the western Nigerian state of Ogun today unveiled his running mate for the 2015 election.

She is Princess Yetunde Abosede Onanuga, 54, a Director in the Lagos State Civil Service.

Amosun and his deputy Prince Segun Adesegun parted ways, after Adesegun defected to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, led by Chief Olusegun Osoba, a former governor of the state. Adesegun has since declared his intention to contest for the governorship ticket in the state on the platform of SDP.

Addressing party leaders and elders today at the Mission to Rebuild Ogun State, MITROS Hall, inside Ibara Housing, Abeokuta, Governor Amosun stated that the party was leaving no stone unturned in ensuring victory at the next general election.

According to him, “today is a special day, all the points raised by our party leaders have been taken note of and when the time comes, we will do the right thing,” Amosun said.

While unveiling the new running mate, the All Progressives Congress, APC State Chairman, Alhaji Roqeeb Adeniji, charged all party members to rally round the governorship running mate for the party to achieve success during next year’s election in the state.

Addressing party members who filled the hall, Onanuga thanked everybody, especially, party leaders and elders for the trust they have in her and promised to remain loyal to both the governor and the party.

She recited the national pledge to buttress her point, adding that, her loyalty and support for the governor will know no bounds, until the party achieves its set goal.

“It is a great day. Thank you for accepting me. If you look at our national pledge, it says we should faithful, loyal and honest, uphold her unity and honour. Please do not doubt my loyalty to you. We shall work hand in hand to achieve our goal, we have been going about this cause, all our women will be carried along in this task,” Onanuga stated.

Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Social Development and Women Affairs, Mrs Elizabeth Sokunbi thanked the governor for picking a woman as his running mate.

She recalled that the governor yearned for a female running mate in 2011 and thanked God for keeping them alive till today to witness the unveiling of the female running mate in the state.

Mrs Onanuga was unveiled in the presence of her husband, Otunba (Giwa) Abiodun Onanuga, Otunba Anikilaya of Ijebuland.

Also in attendance were the Chairman of Ijebu Ode local government, Razaq Daddah, National Treasurer of APC, Alhaji Tajudeen Ola-Bello and other party leaders.

Princess Yetunde Abosede Onanuga’s father hails from Aparaki area of Ijebu Igbo in Ijebu North local government while her mother was from Akaka in Remo North local government area of the state.

Her mother is a direct daughter of the former King of Akaka, Late Oba Oye Sofodu.

Speaking with our correspondent after the event, the husband of the new deputy governor, who is also the Giwa of Bobakeye age grade of Ijebuland, Otunba Abiodun Onanuga thanked the governor and the good people of the state for their support so far, promising that, they will not disappoint.
