Fourty aspirants, including an incumbent Senator and a House of Representatives member, have so far purchased the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nomination forms to contest the various elective positions in the 2015 general elections.

The Secretary of the 20-man committee on the sale of the forms, Alhaji Abubakar Kantoma, announced this to newsmen in Sokoto on Tuesday.

The incumbent senator seeking re-election is Sen. Ahmed Maccido (PDP-Sokoto), while Rep. Umar Bature (PDP-Sokoto) is also in the race.

“There are also some notable new entrants seeking to represent their people like Aminu, the son of Nigeria’s former Finance Minister and Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, who want to represent the Kebbe/Tambuwal federal constituency.

“The exercise is going smoothly and it will be concluded on Nov. 5, 2014,” Kantoma said.

Meanwhile, Sen. Ahmed Maccido has expressed optimism that the party would emerge victorious at all levels during the forthcoming general elections.

“PDP has delivered; it will continue to deliver to Nigerians under its indefatigable national leader, President Goodluck Jonathan,” Maccido added.

Abubakar Alhaji said shortly after purchasing the form that “I am vying to represent my people to further uplift their living standard”.

“I want to use my connections when elected to attract more federal presence to the constituency and bolster my personal efforts to boost their living standard.”

He also promised not to fail the people, the state and the party in general, if elected.

“I have the optimism that the PDP will sweep the 2015 general polls at all levels and President Goodluck Jonathan is capable of steering the nation to more greatness if he is re-elected.”
