The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, on Saturday tasked media organisations to sensitise the public on the need to eschew violence ahead of the 2015 general election.

The emir spoke when Malam Abubakar Jijiwa, the Chairman, Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), led executives of the organisation on a courtesy visit to his palace.

Shehu-Abubakar said the initiative would help in maintaining peace and security in the country before, during and after the elections.

The emir commended the contribution of the media in providing information to the public on the Ebola Virus Disease, which he said contributed to the speedy containment of the disease.

Shehu-Abubakar also lauded the efforts of BON to ensure that Nigeria migrates from analogue to digital transmission by 2015.

Earlier in his remarks, Jijiwa, said that the purpose of the visit to Gombe was to hold the general assembly of BON.

The chairman said that the assembly was to enable stakeholders in the broadcast industry rub minds on various issues pertaining to the development of broadcasting in Nigeria.

According to Jijiwa, the broadcasting stations have contributed positively to the development of the country through dissemination of information, particularly with regards to the containment of the Ebola Virus Disease.

He said that the broadcasting stations had also contributed to the unity, peace and security in the country.

Jijiwa assured the emir of fair and objective reportage of the 2015 general elections by the media.
