Abducted school teacher rescued by police

The police in Delta state has rescued a kidnap victim, Abemu Gabriel, a school teacher from the hands of his abductors.

Gabriel who is a teacher with Oruodo primary school in Ethiope local government area of the state, was allegedly kidnapped by the rail line at Okpara, at about 9:30 pm on Sunday, 5 October, 2014, by the hoodlums.

Following a report of the incident at the Isiokolo Police Division, the DPO, ASP. Iwok Ndifereke, was said to have mobilised his men and blocked all exit routes in the area and went after the hoodlums with his patrol team.

The efforts paid off as the patrol team caught up with the hoodlums at Utiuyo village in Okpara where the criminals on sighting the policemen, opened fire on them.

One of the hoodlums was fatally wounded in the ensuing gun battle while the other suspects escaped into the bush.

According to a press statement signed by the Delta State Police Command Spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu, the kidnap victim who was successfully rescued by the police is currently receiving medical attention in a hospital as a result of shock, while efforts are on top gear to track down the fleeing criminals.
