People coming to Ijebu Ode, the headquarters of Ijebuland for this year’s Ileya and Ojude Oba festivals have been assured of tight security during the festive period.
Giving the assurance today was the Chairman, Ijebu Ode local government area, Hon. Razaq Oluwakemi Daddah while speaking on the preparedness of the Council for the festival.
This year Ileya festival is to be held on Saturday 4 October while the Ojude Oba, which is a carnival-like that attracts people from all walks of life to the town. The festival comes up on the third day of Ileya, which is 6 Monday October,2014.
“We all know that Ijebu Ode is the home of Ileya as people from all walks of life will troop in to the town to celebrate with us, especially, the Ojude Oba festival. I want to assure every Nigerian that will be coming and those at the diaspora who are planning to come home to celebrate this year festival that there is no cause for alarm.
“The security measure put in place this time around is tight and you can attest to it with what you witness last year. This year’s arrangement is more depth and strategic as all the security agencies have been meeting in the last one or two months and all what needs to be done have been done.
“Let me use this medium, to send a very strong warning to those that may thought that the influx of people into the town will give them an opportunity to either rob or forment trouble. There is no way for them as all hands are on deck to curtail any form of vices before, during and after the sallah”, Daddah warned.
The LG boss also commend the State government for expediting action on the Lagos garage – Imepe- Oyingbo- Folagbade road which is under construction.
Speaking with our correspondent, one of the Engineers on the site, who does not want his name in print assured that the asphalting work going on now will be completed before the festive period.
“You can see that work is going on at a very high speed level, we understand that the road will be busy during the festive period, so we are working day and night to see that the work is completed. We are at the asphalting stage as you can see for yourself. I want to say without mincing word that with the level we are going, if not for the rain, we should be able to complete the work before the sallah or latest before the Ojude Oba carnival”, the engineer said.
