Few weeks after resigning as the Public Relations Officer of the Golden Movie Ambassadors of Nigeria, movie star and producer, Yomi Fabiyi, has championed the birth of another movie group Save The Nigerian Movie Industry.

Fabiyi said the coming of the new group became imperative as the challenges in the movie industry are becoming unprecedented.

“Our industry is on a life support owing to the effect of piracy, lack of regulatory body and so on. Therefore,  there is the need to synergize with like minds, foster ideas, organise visitations, meetings, seminars and talks, through a proper channel,” Fabiyi said.

He added that the Nigerian movie industry has been a very viable public relations tool for the country and it will be unfortunate for anyone to look the other way as it crumbles.

“It is with all humility that we call on all and sundry to make this project their primary concern. We have to focus less on the person carrying the idea but believe strongly in the basics of the idea and the sincerity of purpose,” he said.

P.M.NEWS Entertainment Cafe learnt that at least 30 top actors and film makers across diverse groups have been picked as the new group’s vanguards.

The #SaveNigeriaMovieIndustry vanguards are members of various movie associations and some are independent.

They include seasoned actors Yinka Quadri, Toyin Aimakhu, Ara, Femi Branch, Tina Mba, Yemi Solade, Rose Odika, Remi Oshodi, Ayo Badmus and Kemi Stone.

Among the vanguards’ functions are to sponsor and push bills at both national and state assemblies, arrange visits to Aso Rock and State Houses, visit Police Inspector General and State Commands Commissioners, relevant ministers, political parties, corporate titans and other stake holders in the movie industry.

“We implore all actors to embrace this noble cause and support in their little way,” Fabiyi said.
