Police arrest security man for failing to catch armed robbers

The police at Ejigbo division, Lagos state, western, Nigeria have arrested a night security guard and charged him before Ejigbo Magistrate’s court for failing prevent robbers attack during operation.

The suspect, Mohammed Nuru was charged with negligence of duty for failing to use reasonable means to prevent robbery attack in the area where he was employed under the Criminal Code.

He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri Lagos.

The 28-year old Nura was employed as security man at 5, Egbe road in Ejigbo area of Lagos only recent. Though he was working as a guard, he was not equipped with arms or weapons to repel armed robbers.

Days after he was employed, armed men invaded the area at night and over powered him. The robbers broke into a boutique and carted away items worth N500,000.

The owner of the shop, Steve Olumese went to the police and reported that his shop was burgled by the unidentified armed men.
He also informed the police that the residents employed Nura as their night security guard in the area. Consequently, the police arrested Nura and charged him to court with negligence to perform his duty by not preventing armed robbery attack in the area.

Nuru reportedly told the police that he was unable to stop the men who over powered him. He also explained that he had no weapon to confront them.

When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr P.E.Nwaka granted hin bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will fulfill his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 15 October 2014.
