The Osun House of Assembly has begun the process of a legislation on a private bill to regulate activities of hoteliers and tourism business in the state.

The bill, titled “Hotel and other Tourism Enterprise Licensing Authority Establishment 2014”, was sponsored by Mr Adetilewa Sijuade, representing Ife Central Constituency.

Reading the policy trust of the bill at the plenary on Thursday in Osogbo, Sijuade said the bill would also facilitate increase in the Internally Revenue Generation (IGR) of the state.

“Apart from regulating the activities of hoteliers and tourism business operators in the state, the bill, when passed into law, will boost the state’s IGR and investment,” the legislator said.

He urged the assembly to give it accelerated passage in the interest of the people of the state.

Also, a bill on Osun Livestock Roaming 2014, sponsored by Mr Afolabi Atolagbe representing Ifedayo constituency, was adopted.

The sponsor said it was aimed at curbing environmental problems and diseases that animals could cause.

He said it was not seeking prohibition of animal rearing, but would ensure that they were properly reared and kept to avoid environmental problems.

The lawmaker said many accidents occurred in the state due to indiscriminate crossing of livestock on the major roads.

He, therefore, called for speedy passage of the bill.

The Speaker, Najeem Salaam, and majority of the legislators supported the bills in their contributions.

Salaam said while the Livestock Roaming Bill would help in promoting healthy environment in the state, the Hotel and Tourism bill too would promote tourism industry and portray Osun as a serious partner to investors.

The two bills successfully scaled through the second reading.
